Geachte heer Cup, beste Piet,
N.a.v. de vraag of de Heemkundige Kring toestemming krijgt om het voorgestelde wapen,
gebaseerd op het voormalige gemeentewapen van Arcen & Velden, te mogen gebruiken bij verenigingsactiviteiten, kan ik U mededelen dat de gemeente Venlo daar graag toestemming voor verleent. Wij hebben enig onderzoek gedaan naar de huidige praktijk en advies gevraagd aan de Hoge Raad van Adel, die op dit terrein in Nederland de aangewezen instantie is.
De Heemkundige kring gebruikt slechts een deel van het voormalige wapen, doet dat op zorgvuldige wijze en gebruikt het wapen alleen voor cultuurhistorische doelen. Daarmee zijn alle eventuele bezwaren weggenomen.

Waarom zou Arcen eigenlijk niet een eigen wapen kunnen hebben? Het voormalige wapen van de gemeente Arcen en Velden kan natuurlijk niet meer gebruikt worden. Dat had immers betrekking op de drie dorpen. Het was een mooi wapen dat gebaseerd was op het zeer oude lakzegel van de heerlijckheid Arcen. Het zou toch zonde zijn als dat helemaal in de vergetelheid zou raken.

Als er een wapen is dan denk je natuurlijk ook aan een eigen vlag voor Arcen waar dat wapen op voor komt. Ook daarvan zie je nevenstaand een ontwerp.
.We legden het ontwerp voor bij de gemeente Venlo. Deze vroeg op haar beurt weer advies bij de Hoge Raad van Adel welke dergelijke zaken structureert. Hiernaast kunt u de beslissing lezen.
Dus hebben we gewoon een aantal vlaggen en stickers van het wapen laten vervaardigen en te koop aangeboden. Het resultaat is te zien in het dorp waar bij gelegenheid de vlaggen hangen te wapperen!
